This figure shows the population pyramid of Canada in 2014. The birth rate is controlled and death rate is low. There is a low amount of population in the old dependency range and a moderate amount in the young dependency range. The majority of the population is economically active. This means there is less pressure on those who are economically active to care for elders or the young. The population is generally older because there is a long life expectancy, low death rate and decreasing birth rate. There is no doubt that Canada's population pyramid is contracting. This is a typical pattern for a very developed country with a high level of education, easy access to and demand for the use of birth control, good health care, and few negative environmental factors.
This figure shows the population pyramid of Nepal in 2014. The birth rate is increasing rapidly and the death rate is high. There is a low amount of population in the old dependency range and an alarmingly large amount in the young dependency range. A moderate amount of the population is economically active. This means there is a straining pressure on those who are economically active to care for elders and the young. Another concern would to ensuring jobs for all these young people once they've grown older. Such a large amount of population in the young dependency range may lead to having large unemployment rates in the near-future for Nepal. This developing country is clearly in the expanding stage because of it's high birth rates and tendency to have more children. After the age of 25, the death rate increases and the life expectancy is short. Nepal is a country of low levels of education, there is difficulty to obtain and low demand for birth control, poor health care and many environmental issues.
This figure shows the population pyramid of Somalia in 2014. The birth rate is increasing rapidly and the death rate is high. Much like Nepal, there is a low amount of population in the old dependency range and an alarmingly large amount in the young dependency range. A moderate amount of the population is economically active, but in proportion to the young dependency this is still a significantly small amount of the population. This means there is a straining pressure on those few who are economically active to care for what little elders are left and the abundance of young children and babies. There are many concerns for Somalia, including the risk of high unemployment rates. However, this figure shows us that Somalia's death rate for children is increasingly high, meaning the abundance of the young population will not live long enough to become economically active. Somalia, as a developing country similar to Nepal, is also in the expanding stage. This figure shows high birth rates and drastically high death rates. It's life expectancy is even shorter than Nepal's. Somalia is a country of extremely low levels of education, it is almost impossible to obtain birth control, there is incredibly poor health care and many detrimental environmental issues.
